For you and your family · Assessments

We look carefully before we choose a treatment.

Assessments are the questions, exams, and tests that tell us what is going on. Some happen in this clinic. Some happen at a hospital or imaging center. All of them should make sense to you before they happen.

  1. 1 of 4 · What kinds of assessments might I have?

Pictures, mood questions, walking tests, labs, and your bottles.

Imaging (such as an X-ray), a short mood screen, how you walk and stand, blood pressure and blood sugar, and a review of every medicine in the house. Not everyone needs all of these.

A two-question mood screen is not a diagnosis. If it is positive, we connect you with a clinician. If you need a person right now, 988.

  2. 2 of 4 · What if I cannot get to the test?

Tell us. The barrier is part of the assessment.

No ride, no one to watch the kids, no money for the copay, or no one who speaks your language — those are reasons a test does not happen. They are not a failing on your part.

Ask about rides, sliding fee, and a phone visit when a phone visit is safe. We would rather reschedule than pretend.

  3. 3 of 4 · Will you explain the result?

Yes — in words you can repeat.

You should leave knowing whether the result was reassuring, needs a repeat, or changes the plan. A one-page sheet can help you remember why the test was ordered. It is not a copy of the radiology report.

Your official results live in your medical chart. Ask for a portal login if you want to read them at home.

  4. 4 of 4 · Do I have to say yes to every test?

No. Ask why, and what happens if we wait.

That is a fair conversation. Some tests are urgent. Some can wait. You can say you want to think it over.

If you decline something, we still want you back. The door stays open.
